Property
The 1878 comprises four self-catering suites at 23A Salisbury Street, Upper Woodstock, Cape Town. The property is operated as a short-stay accommodation under South African law.
Privacy (POPIA)
This notice is issued in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013. The responsible party is named above.
What we collect
- Your name, email address and phone number.
- Your stay details — arrival and departure dates, and which suite.
- Payment details, entered directly with our payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.
- Door access records — the code issued for your stay and when it was active.
- Anything you write to us in an enquiry or message.
Why we process it
To take and fulfil your booking, to give you access to the suite, to take payment, and to comply with South African accommodation and tax record-keeping requirements. We do not process your information for marketing unless you ask us to, and we do not sell it to anyone.
Who we share it with
Only the operators we need to run the booking and the stay:
- Hostaway — reservation and channel management.
- Peach Payments — card payment processing (South Africa).
- TTLock / Sciener — the door lock platform, which receives your name and stay dates in order to issue your access code.
- Cloudflare — hosting and delivery of this website.
- Google Maps — map display on the About and Building pages.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — only if you choose to message us there rather than by email.
Information leaving South Africa
Some of these operators process information outside South Africa, including the door lock platform, which operates from China. Where that happens it is because it is necessary to perform the booking and the stay you have asked for, as contemplated by section 72 of POPIA.
How long we keep it
Booking and payment records are kept for five years after the end of the tax year in which the stay took place, as South African tax law requires. Door access records are kept for twelve months. Enquiries that do not become bookings are deleted within twelve months.
Your rights
You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we are using it, or withdraw a consent you have given. Write to the address above and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
Cookies, tracking and external content
We do not operate our own advertising or analytics trackers. The enquiry form on the Reservations page is not sent through us at all — it opens a message in your own email app, which you send yourself. The Reservations page loads Hostaway's availability widget, and the About and Building pages embed Google Maps. When those pages load, the relevant provider receives technical connection data such as your IP address and browser or device information, and may use cookies or similar storage under its own policy. Cloudflare also processes technical request and security data to deliver and protect this website. See the Hostaway privacy policy and the Google privacy policy.
